A Christian activist group is rebuking McDonald’s for not facing up to its record of continued support and endorsement of homosexuality.
“McDonald's is still trying to distort their support for the homosexual agenda by twisting words,” the America Family Association (AFA) alleged in a statement.
In late March, the nation’s largest fast-food chain drew a stream of controversy after the company’s vice president of communications joined the board of directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) – an organization “dedicated to expanding the economic opportunities and advancements of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender/Transsexual (LGBT) business community.”
Although McDonald’s claims that the move represented an action by a sole individual, AFA has stood against the assertion.
“While McDonald's says it is not a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the NGLCC website proudly lists them as a ‘Corporate Partner and Organizational Ally,’” AFA noted.
What casts even more doubt, according to the AFA, is a $20,000 donation McDonald’s handed over to the NGLCC.
The donation, which was approved by Richard Ellis, the vice president of communications, all but confirmed the resolve of AFA.
“[McDonald’s] [claims] that Richard Ellis, was elected to the NGLCC board as a private citizen and not a representative of McDonald’s,” the AFA noted. “Yet, Richard Ellis is listed on the NGLCC website as Vice President of Communications, McDonald’s USA.”
While one lone act of endorsing homosexuality may be forgiven, the AFA pointed out that the recent move by McDonald’s was hardly an isolated incident.
In 2007, McDonald’s reportedly boasted of its support for gay couples in a television ad when it sponsored the San Francisco Gay Pride parade, the AFA said.
"Giving money to and partnering with a homosexual lobby organization is certainly an enthusiastic promotion of the homosexual agenda,” the group concluded.
Back in April, Don Wildmon, founder and chairman of AFA, suggested that a boycott on McDonald’s products was a “possibility" if the company would not rectify its actions, according to Baptist Press. It remains to be seen, however, how McDonald’s will continue to react and face up to the accusations concerning its alleged history of endorsing homosexuality.
Founded in 1977, and based in Tupelo, Miss., the American Family Association (AFA) is among one of the largest Christian activist organizations dedicated to the promotion of “the biblical ethic of decency in American society.”

McDonald's Dishonest About Pro-Gay Stance, Group Claims

Despite a boycott, McDonald's is showing no signs of reconsidering its partnership with the pro-homosexual crowd. In fact, rather than distance itself from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the multi-billion dollar company is increasing its support. In addition to its hefty donation to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (which is funding efforts to defeat the marriage amendment in California), executives have also sponsored a San Francisco gay pride parade.
When asked by our friend Don Wildmon, President of the American Family Association, to remain neutral in the debate, McDonald's said, "[we] will continue to support the gay agenda including same-sex marriage." In a television commercial, the fast-food chain went so far as to express "pride" for being recognized by the HRC as a company that "actively demonstrates its commitment to the gay and lesbian community." Until McDonald's shows its commitment to American families, Lawana and I have eaten our last Big Macs. We refuse to let a single penny of our money fund the campaign to redefine marriage and sexuality.

McDonald’s has done it again. First, the company paid $20,000 to become a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and to have a seat on the board of directors. Next, McDonald’s refused a request to remain neutral in the culture war by choosing to promote the gay agenda. Then McDonald’s accused those opposing the gay agenda, including same-sex marriage, of being motivated by hate.
Now we learn that McDonald’s sponsors training for homosexuals on how to promote their agenda among corporations from the inside. Out & Equal™ Workplace Advocates is a national organization devoted to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the workplace. One of its primary purposes is to train employees how to aggressively promote homosexuality within the company they work for, all the way to the corporate boardroom. Part of last year’s Out & Equal Summit in Washington, DC, (sponsored by McDonald’s) was an organized march into congressional offices demanding same-sex marriage laws be passed.
At the bottom of McDonald’s half-page ad in the Out & Equal Summit booklet is this statement: “From neighborhood to neighborhood, coast to coast and around the world, McDonald’s is proud to celebrate diversity” (homosexuality).

After months of pressure from an anti-gay-marriage group, McDonald's Corp. has given up a director's seat and will stop sponsorship of a national gay business organization.
Richard Ellis, who until last month was vice president of communications of McDonald's USA, has resigned from the board of directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, franchisees were told in a Sept. 23 memo.
McDonald's USA, which had made a $20,000 donation to the chamber and became a 2008 chamber sponsor, said it would not sponsor the organization in 2009.
Ellis, the company said, "made a personal decision to step down" from the board after he got a new position with McDonald's Canadian operations. "It is our policy to not be involved in political and social issues. McDonald's remains neutral on same-sex marriage or any 'homosexual agenda' as defined by the American Family Association," the memo said.
In May, the group called for a boycott of McDonald's over the fast-food chain's association with the gay business organization. The American Family Association, based in Mississippi, runs American Family Radio.
"Our concern was: Here is a family-friendly company that has, all of a sudden, joined hands and became a partner and ally with an organization that is absolutely attacking the moral foundation of our nation; trying to redefine marriage in our nation," said Buddy Smith, executive assistant to the group's chairman. "All we were asking is that they just simply be neutral in the culture wars and focus on doing their business and remain neutral."
The chamber, based in Washington, D.C., said it doesn't lobby for same-sex marriage.
Franchisees were feeling the heat from their customers, said Richard Adams of the Franchise Equity Group consultancy. "It was a huge issue for customers in the South. They put a lot of pressure on franchisees," he said.
